Izabela Piekut embarked on her educational journey in 1987 at the University of Calgary, where she pursued her undergraduate studies. Graduating in 1994, she obtained a teaching diploma from the same institution the following year.
Ms. Piekut continued her academic pursuits with a Master’s degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2003 and another in 2009. Throughout her journey, Ms. Piekut's dedication to learning underscores the transformative power of education, serving as an inspiration to others in the field.
Career
With over 18+ years of experience as a Learning Specialist in both Private and Public school systems, Ms. Piekut has consistently achieved amazing results, with her students winning countless "Most Improved Awards." This has reinforced her belief that EVERY child can learn, provided they have a teacher who truly believes in them, builds up their confidence and sets them up for success.
Throughout Ms. Piekut's career, she has served as a Learning Support Lead Teacher, LAC Coordinator, ESL Specialist, Therapeutic Orton-Gillingham Practitioner, Educational Counsellor and Disability Support Advocate. These roles have equipped her with highly specialized knowledge in supporting, teaching and designing success-oriented, high-quality, targeted Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with learning disabilities. Coupled with her magnetic personality and knack for engaging students, she has a tremendous track record of proven success and positive testimonials.
Continued Learning
Ms. Piekut's Master's education as well as her passion for continued learning has further deepened her expertise, exposing her to the most effective research-based teaching strategies and best practices in the field. Additionally, Ms. Piekut's training as an Orton-Gillingham Educator in both literacy and math has provided her with a wide array of powerful, intensive and multi-sensory techniques. These in combination are designed to open ALL the learning pathways simultaneously, enabling students with exceptionalities to thrive, succeed and become confident lifelong learners.
